Atelier Tapis Rouge | Milano Design Week 2024: A Tribute to Patterns, Craftsmanship, and Design Spirit
Atelier Tapis Rouge, a notable presence in the contemporary rug scene with deep roots in the ancient Persian tradition, makes its debut at the Brera Design District during Milan Design Week, showcasing its expertise and craftsmanship within the spaces of its flagship showroom recently opened at Via Borgonuovo 26.
This occasion serves as an ideal platform to exhibit their mastery and dedication to the craft, breathing life into rugs that are true works of art. From classical collections featuring traditional and elegant patterns to contemporary designs characterized by eclectic shapes and colors, Tapis Rouge demonstrates its ability to seamlessly blend tradition with innovation.
The showcased collections emphasize attention to detail and the use of high-quality materials, such as the fusion of precious wool and silk yarns handwoven according to ancient Persian techniques, of which the brand carefully guards the secrets.
The highlight of the exhibition is the “Inganni Spaziali” (Spatial Cheats) collection, designed by Armando Milani, a prominent figure in the international graphic design scene. This project reflects Tapis Rouge’s ambition to translate images into three-dimensional works, overseeing every step of the production process. The collection features large-scale interpretations of analog artworks from the 1960s and ’70s, paying homage to an era characterized by expressive freedom and experimentation.
The rugs in the collection evoke a sense of spatial depth and intrigue, playing with visual illusions and geometric patterns. Each rug is meticulously crafted using a combination of wool and silk to create a textured surface that mimics the nuances of cotton paper, offering a tactile and sensory experience.
The rugs, named Emozioni, Illusione, Grovigli, and Connessioni, symbolize emotional landscapes and invite viewers on a journey through different spatial dimensions. Armando Milani draws inspiration from iconic designers and minimalist artists of the past, infusing the collection with a sense of nostalgia and innovation.
To complement the exhibition, Tapis Rouge presents rugs from other collections that showcase the brand’s versatility and commitment to innovation. From contemporary designs inspired by historical embroidery motifs to traditional patterns reimagined in modern color schemes, each rug reflects Tapis Rouge’s dedication to perfection and innovation.
Produced in Nepal using traditional hand-knotting techniques and natural dyes, each rug embodies a rich tradition of craftsmanship and aesthetic excellence. This exhibition reaffirms Tapis Rouge’s position as a leader in the industry, continuously pushing boundaries and exploring new creative horizons.
While many collections are developed in-house, Tapis Rouge also collaborates on special projects that involve intellectual and artistic research, aiming to create authentic and forward-thinking content that resonates with contemporary audiences.
